Bolivian Ram Tank Mates

Bolivian rams are hardy, peaceful dwarf cichlids — the easy-going cousin of the German blue ram.

They bring all the personality of a dwarf cichlid with far more tolerance of normal room-temperature tropical water, making them a great first cichlid. Peaceful toward tankmates outside of breeding, they pair with most calm community fish the engine knows.

Tank & group guidance: Keep one or a pair in a 20-gallon tank or larger with some flat surfaces and caves. They are hardier and cooler-tolerant than German blue rams. The planner below is pre-set to 20 gallons — add your real list to test it.

      Common questions

What fish can live with Bolivian rams?

Most peaceful community fish: tetras, rasboras, corydoras, and other calm species. Bolivian rams are gentle and undemanding, so they fit a standard community well.

Are Bolivian rams easier than German blue rams?

Yes — they are hardier, tolerate a wider temperature range, and forgive minor water-quality slips that would stress a German blue ram. They make a much better first dwarf cichlid.

Do Bolivian rams need a pair?

They can be kept singly or as a bonded pair. A pair will display more natural behaviour, but a single ram is content in a community.
