Pearl Gourami Tank Mates

Pearl gouramis are large, graceful, peaceful anabantoids — an elegant centrepiece for a roomy community.

The most peaceful of the bigger gouramis, they tolerate tankmates well and even other pearl gouramis in a large enough tank. They reach about 12 cm, so they need a longer tank than the dwarf or honey gourami. The engine clears most peaceful community fish, flagging only fin-nippers and the odd boisterous species.

      Common questions

What fish can live with pearl gouramis?

Peaceful community fish of moderate size: larger tetras (rummynose, congo), rasboras, corydoras, peaceful catfish, and other calm species. Avoid fin-nippers, which target their long pelvic feelers.

Can you keep multiple pearl gouramis?

Yes — they are peaceful enough to keep as a pair or small group in a large tank, unlike the more combative dwarf and three-spot gouramis.

How big do pearl gouramis get?

About 12 cm, the largest of the commonly-kept gouramis, so they need a longer tank (30 gallons-plus) than nano anabantoids.
